Using Ultra VNC on the Acer Aspire One

One of the programs I have used pretty consistently over the years is VNC. It is open source, and works reliably. There are several variations of VNC but I prefer Ultra VNC. It can be downloaded from here.

The installation went smoothly, choosing all the default options. With VNC I can connect to workstations in my home network either locally or across the internet. Below is a short demo of Ultra VNC on the AA1.

  1. Hi Nice blog.

I've added a link to you from my AA1 blog.
I use Linux on my acer rather then Windows, how well does Windows run on it?

    Best wishes

  2. Thanks John for the cross link, I've added your blog also.
As for XP, it runs surprisingly well on the AA1. My whole philosophy on this little unit is to take it stock, out of the box and do as much as I can with open source or free software. Hardware wise, though I am not shy about opening it up, I intend to keep out of it, only adding peripheral hardware (bluetooth dongle, USB device etc.)
There in will lie the Zen of this blog, lol :)

  4. I understand that John. I enjoy playing around with Linux OS too on occasion. Like I said, I'm just trying out the AA1 to see what can be done with it out of the box so to speak. The hardware mod's are something I enjoy too, but I am going to stay out of this one, as I feel most people that are going to be buying one of these will probably keep it stock also. Cheers
